1. The effect of grinding material hardness.
The grinding material hardness has a big effect on wear rate. The effect is mainly marked by rate of material hardness and grinding material hardness. With the change on rate, the wear-resisting material mechanism is changed too.
2. The effect of grinding material size.
The grinding material shape (sharpness) has an obvious effect on wear rate. Compared with river sand, new broken quartz sand wears on material more seriously. As it is hard to measure and quantify the sizes of all kinds of grinding materials, generally grinding materials are divided into three types: sharp shape, polygon, obtuse shape. Based on same hardness, the grinding material in sharp shape wears material more seriously. The main wear mechanism is microscopic cutting. The polygon wears on material secondly. This wear mechanisms are microscopic cutting and furrow. Obtuse shape at last. The wear mechanism is furrow. Grinding material size can wear on material. When grinding material size is below critical size. With the increase of grinding material size, volume wear increases rapidly. When grinding material size exceeds critical size, the wear magnitude of increase significantly reduced.
3. The effect of mechanical properties of material
The mechanical properties effecting wear are modulus of elasticity, macro hardness, surface strength, plasticity, fracture toughness etc. The abrasive resistance of industry metal is proportional to its modulus of elasticity .But this relationship does not apply to heat-treated steel. Although the heat treatment does not change modulus of elasticity, it can improve abrasive performance obviously. Oppositely, compared with abrasive performance, industrial pure metal and all types of steel are proportional to macro-hardness. But with macro hardness higher wear ability changes in the different ways. The abrasive performance is not only decided by hardness of steel, but also the composition. Although the heat-treated steels in different compositions have same hardness, the abrasive performances are different. It means that it does not exist a single value corresponding relation between the abrasive performance and macro hardness.
